Helko van den Brom is a principal scientist at VSL, the Dutch National Metrology Institute, where he is involved in electrical measurements. His main research interests are in power quality, electricity meters, current and voltage transducers, and sampling systems.

Electromagnetic interference between DC and 150 kHz: beyond current standardization

With the integration of renewable energy sources and electric vehicles and their charging stations, regulation of PQ emission is getting more and more important. Standardization of PQ is arranged for many years already, but recent developments ask for improved standards with new test procedures and measurement methods. In this presentation, three examples of normative measurement aspects of PQ will be highlighted: (1) broadband disturbance signals beyond present standards, recorded at EV charging stations and other metered supply points in Europe, and their gross impact on electricity meter readings; (2) harmonization of measurement techniques of supraharmonics as defined in different standards; (3) measurement of disturbance signals and PQ definitions in DC microgrids.
