The Electromagnetic Field Testing Technician course is a nationally accredited course conducted through the Australian College of Environmental Studies (RTO.21740). The course explores the adverse health effects and sources of AC magnetic fields and radiofrequencies that may impact the built environment. In addition, students will learn how to use sophisticated meters to measure specific EMFs and how building materials like vapour barriers and metal rooves may influence the readings. Using the Hierarchy of Control, the course will provide an in-depth discussion on how consumers can reduce their exposure to EMFs whilst living in a technological world, and understand why plug-in devices are not effective, and the pros and limitations of shielding. The course consists of 4 days on-campus training followed by 12 weeks of online training (total 150 hours). Upon completion, graduates will receive a Statement of Attainment (BLDBIO602 Conduct an electromagnetic field assessment), Electromagnetic Field Testing Technician certificate, ACES certified ID card, and be eligible to join the Australasian Society of Building Biologists as an Electromagnetic Field Testing Technician.
