As electricity is generated at sea by marine renewable energy technologies, it must be transported back to shore through undersea cables. As electricity is transmitted through the cables, Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) are produced. While the earth has a natural EMF signature, additional EMF signals may have effects on certain marine animals such as fish and sea turtles. This webinar provides an overview of EMF in the marine environment, how additional EMF signatures from marine renewable energy devices may effect certain marine organisms, and how research efforts are addressing this issue.
